Programming and Application Support Services consists of programmers and analysts responsible for improving the efficiency of county offices through the use of technology.
One of the main goals of Programming and Application Support Services involves process redesign. Rather than simply increasing speed through automation, they work closely with other areas to find enhancements that better serve the Citizens of Lake County. This is done through an integrated approach that allows them to leverage the existing Information Technology Infrastructure as much as possible. Read the Case Study section to see how Programming and Application Support Services has helped improve county functions.
Improving upon an existing process by using automation is a great way to reduce the time and effort it takes people to perform repetitive tasks. Automation can also help reduce the amount of errors, and thus the costs involved with a task.
Another goal of the team is to store data in a manner that enables information to be easily shared among different organizational units. The system in which we intend to accomplish this through is called DataOne. DataOne is an attempt to coordinate multiple data sources throughout the county into an infrastructure that not only makes exchanging data with different systems possible, but easy. This is accomplished by the use of scanning technologies, workflow automation and electronic forms.
Programming and Application Support Services is also responsible for maintaining the installed applications and databases throughout the county. Recent accomplishments of this team include the Automated Agenda and the Technical Services Work Order Request.
