Office and Lab Facilities
Built in 1961, the building housing the Lake County Mosquito & Aquatic Plant Management Division is located on about 3 acres in downtown Tavares. The main office includes administrative offices and an entomology laboratory.
Also located on site are the bulk-pesticide storage area, fleet staging area, bulk-petroleum depot and maintenance shop. The pesticide storage area includes a 1,200-gallon tank and two 1,000-gallon storage tanks for malathion and a 1,000-gallon mix tank for permethrin. The pesticide storage tanks are covered to prevent exposure to
inclement weather and are surrounded by a non-permeable secondary containment wall. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection inspects the storage plant periodically for compliance to state and federal laws.
The fleet staging area houses 16 mosquito spray trucks, five field operations trucks, four airboats, three aquatic plant management trucks and several other vehicles used in support of operations.
