Lake County Commission to host public hearings regarding budget
TAVARES — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners is inviting the public to attend Fiscal Year 2019 public budget hearings in September. The first and final hearings will take place at 5:05 p.m. in the Board Chambers of the County Administration Building, located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares, on Sept. 11 and Sept. 25, 2018, respectively.

Government offices to close for Labor Day; Solid Waste collection to shift by one day
All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections, Tax Collector and Clerk of Court; the Lake County Animal Shelter; the Lake County Extension Center and Discovery Gardens; and all 15 Lake County Library System libraries will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.

Lake County to break ground on Hickory Point Beach Athletics Center
The Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Visit Lake and The Florida Region of USA Volleyball are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony of The Hickory Point Beach Athletics Center. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 27341 State Road 19, Tavares.

Lake County Animal Shelter introduces ‘Operation Community Caturday’ to manage feral cats
The Lake County Animal Shelter is launching a new program to help decrease the feral cat population countywide. “Operation Community Caturday,” a partnership between the shelter and LEASH, Inc., will seek to sterilize up to 600 free-roaming cats per year.
