TAVARES — The Lake County Comprehensive Planning Division joined the ranks of thousands of other Web surfers, including Sen. Hillary Clinton, comedian Tom Green and real-estate mogul Donald Trump, as it introduced Friday its first Web blog.
A blog is short for a ‘Web log,” or a diary on the Internet. Blogs are increasingly becoming a popular way to communicate to a larger audience. Ten members of Congress currently utilize blogs to reach out to voters and to communicate particular issues to their constituency.
The Planning Horizon Blog is another avenue Lake County is exploring to help keep residents abreast of new information each week about the draft of the County’s new comprehensive plan. Authors of the blog will be Deputy County Manager Gregg Welstead and Planning Manager Amye King. Each week either King or Welstead will post a new entry into the Planning Horizon 2025 Web site.
“The idea behind the new online journal is to further our communication with residents and businesses about the comprehensive plan,” King said. “During our last round of public meetings, some comments were received that we need to do a better job communicating with the public. By no means will this new Web feature solve that issue, but this is the one of many ways we are improving to stay in better touch the community.”
Required by state law, a comprehensive plan is the foundation for local planning as it acts as an outline of the community's vision and priorities. Together, citizens, municipalities, county government and other local and regional entities play integral parts in shaping what Lake County will look like 20 years from now.
