TAVARES — The Department of Public Safety Fire Rescue Division has begun receiving grant checks from the Allstate Foundation to help defray hurricane-related repairs to damaged fire stations.
Six Lake County fire stations have been selected to receive the $500 grants. According to Allstate representatives, the foundation is awarding a total of $50,000 in grants to 100 fire stations in the state. On Thursday, Feb. 10, Lake County officials received a donation from the foundation for Fire Station No. 31, which serves the Mt. Plymouth and Sorrento areas.
The East Lake County station suffered some water intrusion damage to the carpets during the series of three hurricanes this past year. Accepting the check were Lake County Commissioner Catherine Hanson, Department of Public Safety Director Gary Kaiser, Station 31 Lt. Roger Minger, Firefighter/Paramedic Craig Wood and Firefighter/EMT Loren Blackwell.
“It shows a commitment by businesses in the community to offer their support for the County fire service. It is very much appreciated,” said Lake County Commissioner Catherine Hanson about the fire rescue grant.
Presenting the check at the fire station was Allstate exclusive agent Louis Biron, who has recently established an office on State Road 46 in Mount Plymouth.
