TAVARES — The Board of County Commissioners is asking the public to nominate outstanding Lake County women to be considered for induction into the Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame.
Nomination forms are available online or at the Board of County Commissioners’ office, room 316 of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares. Nominations for 2005 must be received by Aug. 12.
“We’ve not had a shortage of applicants in the past,” said County Commissioner Catherine Hanson, who became a member of the Women’s Hall of Fame in 1995. “A lot of fabulous women have made substantial contributions to the County.”
Nominees typically have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for citizens and have enhanced the role of women in Lake County. A selection committee of five citizens reviews nominations, and those selected will be honored at the State of the County event in October.
On Oct. 21 of last year, the late Effie H. Treadway was enshrined into the Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame. The former City of Tavares leader and board member for Tavares schools became the 18th woman selected for the prestigious honor.
“The women that are the movers and shakers of the County and those that have really made an impact in their community — those are applicants that we really look for,” Hanson said.
Nominations will remain on file for two consecutive years for reconsideration. For more information about the Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame or to have a nomination form mailed out, call (352) 343-9849.
