TAVARES — The Lake County 4-H Program hosted the 10th Annual Tropicana Public Speaking Contest at the Lake County Extension Service Bob Norris Auditorium on April 28 with 17 schools participating.
The Tropicana Public speaking contest is sponsored by Tropicana and hosted by the Lake County 4-H Program. The public speaking contest teaches life skills such as written and verbal communication.
Each school in Lake County is offered the opportunity to participate at the beginning of the school year. The schools then hold a classroom contest and a school contest. The winners from each school then attend a workshop followed the next week by the countywide contest.
Winners of the Lake County contest were as follows: Elementary Division: first place Nathan Blamick, Eustis Elementary; second place Shelby Koos, Christian Home and Bible School; third place Robert Milejczak, Clermont Elementary; and honorable mention Rachel Lundberg, Seminole Spring Elementary, and Megan Torman, Spring Creek Elementary. Middle School Division: first place Mary Sligh, Carver Middle School; second place Zachary Hebest, Eustis Middle School; and third place Jeremy Daulton, Gray Middle School.
