TAVARES — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, in the Board Chambers, located on the second floor of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares, to review plans to expand and renovate the Lake County Judicial Center in downtown Tavares and to receive public comment.
The current 120,000-square-foot facility was constructed 17 years ago and houses courtrooms and offices for circuit and county judges, many functions of the Lake County Clerk of Courts and offices for the State Attorney’s Office.
The meeting will also present funding options available for the proposed expansion and renovation projects. Two options to expand the courthouse include $77.7 million for a 298,290-square-foot addition and $59 million for a 197,092-square-foot addition.
Refurbishment costs for the current facility range from $12.5 to $23 million depending on the extent of the renovation. A third option that the Board of County Commissioners may also consider is redesigning a smaller project to further reduce costs.
