Annual Back-to-School Safety Fair is Aug. 8

RELEASE DATE: July 29, 2009

LEESBURG — The Lake County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST), in cooperation with the Lake County Department of Public Works, local law enforcement agencies and the Lake Square Mall, will host the 2009 Back-to-School Safety Fair on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the mall, located at 10401 U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg.

This annual event, in its 13th year, provides families an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming school year by offering several important safety programs including bicycle and helmet safety, a child-seat checkpoint, school immunizations and child identification. The fair will feature other services, such as the Lake County Schools’ Parent Resources, Children’s Home Society of Florida, Florida’s Blood Centers, Florida Division of Drivers License, Florida SADD and LakeXpress.

“Lake County families are encouraged to attend this event to learn how to safely prepare for the start of the school year,” said Noble Olasimbo, Chairman of the CTST.

At the fair, children can also enjoy several fun activities, including meeting Sir Gus Jr., the kissing camel, and face painting. Publix, Coca-Cola, Humana Market Point, H&R Block, Concord Management and the 18th Masonic District are sponsors of the 2009 Back-to-School Safety Fair.

The Lake County CTST is a multi-jurisdictional agency with cooperation between Lake County, its municipalities, other organizations and concerned citizens. The CTST uses a multi-disciplinary approach to solve roadway safety problems in Lake County. The team is comprised of individuals representing engineering, law enforcement, emergency services, traffic-safety education and the public.

For more information about the 2009 Back-to-School Safety Fair, call Noble Olasimbo or Cheryl Sutherland at (352) 483-9048.
