TAVARES — Both two-legged and four-legged guests are welcome for a grand-opening celebration for a dog park and fishing pier at Lake Idamere Park, 12335 County Road 448, Tavares, on Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event, hosted by the Lake County Department of Public Works, Parks and Trails Division, will include arts and crafts activities for children. Pet owners are encouraged to bring a copy of their dog’s vaccination records as many pets are expected to be present in the park during the celebration.
The one-and-a-half acre dog park features three separate areas; one for larger dogs, another for smaller canines and a third for future expansion of a doggie obstacle course. The fenced-in park also offers multiple entry gates, dog-waste stations, water stations and plenty of shade trees. The 80-foot long fishing pier extends into Lake Idamere with a 360-square-foot platform.
