GROVELAND — The Lake County Welcome Center, located at 20763 U.S. Highway 27 in Groveland, unveiled this month a new computer kiosk to assist vacationers in accessing the Internet to make hotel reservations and find more information about local attractions and outdoor activities.
“When vacationers arrive in Lake County, they are faced with a variety of decisions,” said Greg Mihalic, Director of the Lake County Tourism & Business Relations Division. “It’s important to take some of the guesswork out of where they need to go for a hotel room, entertainment or dinner. It’s also essential that they know how to navigate Lake County.”
The new computer kiosk is a continuation of the Lake County Tourism & Business Relations Division’s effort to make it easier for vacationers to access the Internet for information. Several years ago, the Welcome Center installed free wireless Internet service (Wi-Fi) for visitors. Dozens of visitors use the wireless Internet connection each month at the Welcome Center.
“Just by the nature of people doing their planning and traveling they are not stopping at welcome centers anymore, they do it on the Internet,” Mihalic said. “With the addition of Wi-Fi and now the computer kiosk, we hope to entice more vacationers to stop by. The Welcome Center is the perfect place to begin a visit to Lake County, as well as an ideal spot for visitors to finish planning their vacations.”
In addition to helping visitors locate information about Lake County accommodations and attractions, the computer kiosk will help promote the County’s tourism Web site, www.lakecountyfl.com. Several new features were recently added to the Web site including a trip planner, video podcasts and a library of digital brochures.
