Lake County proud to play host to AAU Football National Championships

RELEASE DATE: December 1, 2009

UMATILLA — Less than a year old, Lake County’s newest recreational facility investment at North Lake Community Park, located at 40730 Roger Giles Road, Umatilla, is already paying dividends, as it will play host to 28 football teams from across the country for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 2009 Tackle Football National Championship on Dec. 3-6.

“I am excited and honored that Lake County is hosting the AAU 2009 National Championship,” said Lake County Commissioner Welton Cadwell. “Since we first considered building this new recreational facility, hosting large events such as this is something we had hoped for. It’s a great opportunity for Lake County to showcase why it is a world-class destination for outdoor sporting events.”

All-Star Sports Training, located at 46821 Jane Lane in Paisley, is organizing the AAU 2009 Tackle Football National Championship, which includes players, ages 8-14. Teams are coming from all over the country to participate in the event, including Seattle, San Diego and Washington, D.C. All-Star Sports Training will host the National Championship on Sunday, Dec. 6. The finals will be broadcast live on www.banditsportstv.com.

North Lake Community Park will host the First AAU National Football Combine hosted by Athletic Republic and EAS on Thursday, Dec. 3, beginning at 7 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the park will be a Skills Clinic for all age groups hosted by the local NFL Players Association Chapter. Among the instructors are Tony Marciano, from the Houston Texans, Bill Renner, NFL Special Teams Coach, and Joe Zelenka and Kyle Brady from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The park will also host pool play games for the championship on Friday and Saturday.

The cost for spectators for the entire tournament is $15 for adults, $7 for children ages 6 and up, and free for children under the age of 5. A daily pass is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 and up, and free for children under the age of 5.

The 96-acre North Lake Community Park, which opened in May 2009, features an expansive playground, four picnic pavilions, restroom facilities, two basketball courts, four sand volleyball courts, six tennis courts, two basketball courts, two soccer fields, three multi-use fields, two baseball fields, two softball fields, a dog park, perimeter loop trail and concession stands operated by Sunrise Snack Shack.
