TAVARES — Lake County employees celebrated this week when their holiday food drive concluded with a total of 6,000 pounds of collected non-perishable food and toiletries.
The holiday food drive for Lake County employees kicked off in late November and concluded on Dec. 11. In addition, Lake County employees and volunteers helped coordinate the annual “Stuff the Bus” food drive on Nov. 21 at Wal-Mart stores in Leesburg and Mount Dora.
“With the addition of 4,200 pounds from Stuff the Bus event, we’ve set an extraordinary record of food drive support with a grand total of 10,200 pounds of food and toiletries collected,” said Interim County Manager Sandy Minkoff.
The nonperishable food collected during both food drives was donated to the Human Care Network, which is a community-wide service delivery initiative developed by United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties in partnership with The Salvation Army to assist the less fortunate in the community and ensure that their fundamental needs are met.
