Lake County adds more free maps to its Map Gallery

RELEASE DATE: January 8, 2010

TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Information Technology, Geographic Information Services (GIS) Division, began ringing in the New Year by launching a series of new maps available for free download on the Division’s Map Gallery Web page at www.lakecountyfl.gov/maps.

The new maps available include:

  • Population Comparison — A look at population density in 1990, 2000 and 2009 showing where growth has occurred
  • Hospital Districts — The boundaries of the North and South Lake Hospital districts
  • Managed Areas — Lands that have natural resource value and may be managed for conservation purposes
  • Recharge Areas — Aquifer recharge areas

The new maps push the Map Gallery’s total to more than 50 maps, including maps detailing libraries, County facilities, fire hydrant locations and voting precincts. Sue Carroll, GIS Project Manager, spearheaded the effort to create the Population Comparison Map. This particular map was created with software that displays density “hot spots” in an effort to provide real world analysis.

“The development of these maps is cost effective and reflects the increasing importance of community information in an e-Government strategy,” said Kevin Willis, Director of the Lake County GIS Division.

The Map Gallery also includes the interactive mapping Web page at http://gis.lakecountyfl.gov/gisweb/. In addition to a wealth of informational layers, the interactive map also contains information on each individual parcel in the County. Drawing stats from the Lake County Property Appraiser’s Web site, each parcel listing includes property information, such as land value and assessed value.
