EUSTIS — Lake And Sumter Emergency Recovery (LASER) will be packaging meals for the Haitian relief effort on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Volunteers wishing to help with the effort are required to register by Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. A registration form is available at the LASER office, located at 27 E. Pinehurst Blvd. in Eustis, by calling (352) 483-1029 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
LASER is providing a unique opportunity for residents of Lake and Sumter counties to directly provide relief for Haiti as the Eustis-based not-for-profit agency is partnering with Kids Against Hunger to package thousands of meals. The meals packaged at LASER in Eustis will be delivered by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport for distribution in Haiti. The meals, which cost about 23 cents apiece, include healthy, vitamin-rich foods, such as rice and soy.
Donations for the Haitian relief effort can be made by sending a check to: Lake And Sumter Emergency Recovery, Inc. (LASER) 27 E. Pinehurst Blvd. Suite B, Eustis, FL 32726. Lake County Schools is sponsoring “Kids Helping Kids for Haiti” that is raising funds for packaging meals. With a goal of delivering 45,000 meals to children in Haiti, students are being asked to donate 25 cents at school.
United Southern Bank is also was accepting donations for LASER’S Haitian relief effort. Those interested in donating to the effort can visit any of United Southern Bank’s 11 locations.
