Lake County Complete Count Committee unveils Twitter & Facebook pages for 2010 U.S. Census

RELEASE DATE: January 29, 2010

TAVARES — The Lake County Complete Count Committee is plunging into the social media realm by recently unveiling its Facebook fan page at “Lake County Counts” and its Twitter account at “lakecounts.”

The goal of these social media outlets is to reach out to the diverse population of Lake County to inform it about the importance of the 2010 U.S. Census. In March 2010, every Lake County household will receive a census questionnaire in the mail. It is important every Lake County resident is counted during the 2010 U.S. Census.

In addition, the Lake County Complete Count Committee has recently launched a 2010 Census Web site at http://census.lakecountyfl.gov to help inform citizens about the census. A Spanish version of the Web site is available at http://census.lakecountyfl.gov/spanish.

The Lake County Complete Count Committee was formed in January 2009 and represents the area’s diverse population, geography and organizations. Members from a host of organizations, including churches, community groups, local governments and schools, offer their expertise and insights to develop a robust outreach strategy that leverages and capitalizes on existing outreach and community touch points, all in an effort to avoid an undercount. The Committee works in close partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau to leverage federal resources at the local level to coordinate outreach efforts in the most effective way possible.

  • Your response matters — Census data helps inform decision makers how our community is changing.
  • Bring federal dollars to our community — The population counted during the census affects funding for our community. Approximately $400 billion in federal funds are distributed to communities each year based on the census.
  • The census is short and simple — With only 10 questions, the 2010 Census questionnaire is one of the shortest in history and takes just 10 minutes to complete.
  • Your response is strictly confidential — By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual’s census questionnaire responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.
