LEESBURG — The Lake County Department of Public Resources, Parks & Trails Division, is hosting two events in the Leesburg area this week.
Park rangers on Friday, March 5, will conduct a bird & butterfly survey from 7 to 11:30 a.m. at PEAR Park, located at 5336 University Ave., Leesburg, and is requesting the help of local bird and butterfly enthusiasts. Park rangers are encouraging birders, who can identify common birds by sight or sound, to participate. The butterfly survey will be conducted from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers participating in the butterfly survey should be able to identify most common species. The activity will include hiking about 2 miles on trails.
On Saturday, March 6, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., park rangers will guide a nature hike at Twin Lakes Park, located at 35303 County Road 473, Leesburg. The low-impact, quarter-mile hike is over paved trails and a boardwalk making it suitable for walkers, strollers and wheelchairs. During the hike, park rangers will identify plants, animals, butterflies and birds.
For both events, participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Park rangers also recommend bringing insect repellent, sunscreen, water, snacks, binoculars and field guides.
