ASTOR — Lake County park rangers, in cooperation with the Lake County Water Authority, will lead a “Paddling Adventure” on Saturday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning at the Lake George Boat Ramp, located at 58300 Lake George Road in Astor.
Paddlers will depart from the boat ramp and discover the Blue Creek Run of Lake County Blueways. Lake County’s eight blueway runs are similar to a hiking trail for canoeists and kayakers. Physical and geo-positioned markers guide trail users through the waterways.
The 3-mile Blue Creek Run is well known for its diverse wildlife. Guides will talk about the freshwater resource while pointing out different plants, birds and other animals.
Suggested items to bring include warm clothing, water, snacks, insect repellent and waterproof cameras. Guides can provide participants with canoes or kayaks, life vests and paddles; however, participants are welcome to bring their own canoes and kayaks, life vests and paddles. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver.
The free “Paddling Adventure” is limited to the first 15 individuals to place reservations. To make reservations for the paddling adventure or for more information, call the Lake County Water Authority at (352) 343-3777.
