Lake County 4-H requests volunteer judges for fair

RELEASE DATE: March 29, 2010

TAVARES — The Lake County 4-H Youth Development Program is requesting several volunteers to judge 4-H exhibits at the Lake County Fair beginning Wednesday, April 7, at 9 a.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds, located at 2101 County Road 452, Eustis.

“Judging is easy and volunteers will be placed with someone that has done it in the past,” said Jennifer Hodges, Lake County’s 4-H Extension Agent.

The 4-H program organizes a group of exhibits that are featured exclusively at the fairground’s Clements Building. The building houses 4-H student exhibits of horticulture, arts & crafts, woodworking, photography and posters. The 4-H program also hosts livestock shows and educational skill-a-thons at the fair. Show times are:

• Wednesday, April 7 — Poultry & rabbit skill-a-thon from 6 to 8 p.m.
• Thursday, April 8 — Beef breeding skill-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Thursday, April 8 — Beef breeding show from 6 to 7 p.m.
• Friday, April 9 — Goat skill-a-thon from 1 to 2 p.m.
• Friday, April 9 — Goat show from 7 to 8 p.m.
• Saturday, April 10 — Steer weigh-in from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Saturday, April 10 — Poultry show from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
• Saturday, April 10 — Rabbit show from 5 to 7 p.m.
• Monday, April 12 — Steer skill-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Monday, April 12 — Steer show from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, April 13 — Steer awards from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
• Thursday, April 15 — Swine skill-a-thon from 4 to 6 p.m.
• Thursday, April 15 — Plant skill-a-thon from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
• Friday, April 16 — Swine show from 6 to 10:30 p.m.
• Saturday, April 17 — Swine awards from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
