LEESBURG — Staff from LakeXpress, Lake County’s public transportation service, is gearing up for its new Park N’ Ride service that will ferry guests into the crowded streets and venues of downtown Leesburg for the 14th Annual Leesburg Bikefest on April 23-25.
LakeXpress will provide three routes during the Bikefest event. Fares for all routes are $1 each way or $3 for an all-day pass. According to officials from the Lake County Public Transportation Division, the expanded hours will greatly enhance motorist and motorcyclist safety for Bikefest.
“With as many as 300,000 visitors expected for this three-day event, safety is a primary concern,” said Ken Harley, Director of the Lake County Public Transportation Division. “By providing expanded transit services to the event, it is anticipated that this year’s festival will be safer and less congested.”
One shuttle will run every 20 minutes between downtown Leesburg and Gator Harley-Davidson, located at 1745 U.S. Highway 441. In addition, two other shuttles with 30-minute service will run along U.S. Highway 441 from downtown Leesburg to Lake Griffin State Park and from downtown Leesburg to the Holiday Inn Express and JJ Fin’s Dockside in Tavares.
The two U.S. Highway 441 shuttles will provide transit to many lodging facilities and restaurants as well as the campground at the state park. Park N’ Ride locations at Lake Square Mall, located at 10401 U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg, and Sims Furniture Galleries, located at 1715 Citrus Blvd. in Leesburg, will provide local and out-of-town festival patrons an improved option to access the event.
The Gator Harley Shuttle will operate Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hours of operation for the two U.S. Highway 441 Park N’ Ride services will be extended to 3 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning. On Sunday, the Park N’ Ride services will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Gator Harley Shuttle will operate 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During the weekdays, LakeXpress operates 6 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Under normal operations, the LakeXpress service includes four routes. Route 1 runs from The Villages to Eustis, primarily on U.S. Highway 441. Route 2 circulates in downtown Leesburg. Route 3 circulates in downtown Mount Dora. Route 4 runs from the Altoona Post Office on State Road 19 to the community of Zellwood on U.S. Highway 441 where passengers can transfer to LYNX route 44.
