LEESBURG — The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is hosting a bird survey for the North American Migration Count (NAMC) on Saturday, May 8, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at PEAR Park, located at 5336 University Ave., Leesburg.
The NAMC occurs in both the spring and fall. The spring count is always the second weekend in May and the fall count is the third weekend in September. The main goal of the NAMC is it gives a snapshot of migration across North America showing researchers where and when birds are moving. Another benefit of this project is it gets more people involved in the field of enjoying birds.
“If you can’t join us at PEAR Park, consider doing the count at a local park or even your own backyard,” said Park Ranger Gallus Quigley. “Your data can be sent to me at firstname.lastname@example.org for compiling and forwarding to the regional coordinators for inclusion. Data should be sent to me by May 15.”
Volunteering birders should have their own binoculars and field guides. Participants are also encouraged to bring water, snacks, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat and hiking shoes.
Reservations are encouraged. Bird watchers who wish to volunteer for the bird survey can call the Lake County Parks & Trails Division at (352) 253-4950 or-email email@example.com.
