TAVARES — Join the Lake County Board of County Commissioners in celebrating the grand opening of the Horticultural Learning Center at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 14, beginning at 9 a.m.
The new Lake County Horticultural Learning Center, located at the Lake County Agricultural Center at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares, is a 2,300-square-foot educational building housing public restrooms for men and women, a classroom and a staff break area. The primary purpose of this building is to provide an on-site classroom and restrooms for the education, convenience, safety and comfort of citizens participating in educational functions within Discovery Gardens.
“Enhancing our visitors’ educational experience is one of our top priorities,” said Juanita Popenoe, Director of the Lake County Extension. “Students from local schools and adults searching for agricultural and landscaping tips visit us each year and they deserve this space.”
The Horticulture Learning Center is an educational resource supporting the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) programs in horticulture, gardening, landscape design and natural resource management. The gardens provide hands-on learning experiences for homeowners, garden enthusiasts, educators and children. Tours of the Discovery Gardens will be offered following the ceremony.
