TAVARES — A chance to win $10,000 for the Lake County Animal Services’ shelter, located at 28123 County Road 561 in Tavares, is all staff needed to jump headfirst into “The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Holiday Shelter+ Challenge.”
Lake County Animal Services is encouraging local animal lovers to log on to The Animal Rescue Site (www.theanimalrescuesite.com) to vote for the County shelter and help The Animal Rescue Site choose Lake County, an eligible Petfinder.com animal rescue organization, to receive special funds to help animals. Voting is easy. No registration is required and each person can vote once a day.
“The featured animals on the County’s Web site are also shown on Petfinder.com and are just a select few of the many adoptable animals at the shelter,” said Marjorie Boyd, Director of the Lake County Animal Services Division.
Eighty-three grants will be awarded for a total of $100,000 to eligible Petfinder.com members. The final prize of $10,000 will go to the eligible Petfinder.com organization with the highest accumulative votes for the duration of the Challenge. Other grants include $1,000 for state winners and $1,000 for weekly winners.
In addition, local pet lovers can upload a happy pet photo for “The Shelter Fan Photo Contest” for chance to win Lake County Animal Services a $2,000 grant to help animals.
To adopt an animal at the County shelter, visit Lake County Animal Services, located at 28123 County Road 561 in Tavares, on Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pet adoptions are on a first-come, first-serve basis and interested parties are not allowed to place holds on animals.
Adoption fees are based on the cost of sterilization, rabies vaccination, County tag, regular vaccinations and testing. The sterilization fees vary depending upon gender and size of the animal.
