Judging will take place on Nov. 30 at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares. Winners will receive prizes and are eligible to compete at the area contest. For more information and to download contest flyers, log on to www.lakecountyfl.gov/lswcd or call (352) 343-2481, ext. 6.
“The contests provide an excellent opportunity for students to enjoy healthy competition while learning about conservation,” said Brad Russ, District Resource Coordinator.
The National Association of Conservation Districts determines the annual stewardship theme. This year's theme is “Forests for People: More than you can imagine!”
The idea behind this theme is to connect people to the forest whether they have one in their backyard, in their state or no forests at all. We all have a connection to the trees in the forest that provide wood for homes, furniture or cork for the center of baseballs. The speech contest theme is “What is the Economic Impact of Florida Forests?”
