TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Safety would like to remind all County residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios for the end of daylight-saving time on Sunday, Nov. 7.
Daylight-saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday. Local fire and emergency management officials encourage homeowners to replace batteries in their smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios when they change their clocks because it provides a convenient reminder.
While it is recommended that batteries be replaced in smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios semi-annually, these devices should also be tested at least once a month. The proper maintenance of smoke detectors and NOAA weather radio can significantly increase the chances of surviving a house fire or natural disaster. Coupled with a family escape plan, operational smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios can save lives.
