TAVARES — The Lake Soil & Water Conservation District announced the winners of the annual poster and speech contests held Nov. 30. Skylar Baumann, an eighth grade student at Eustis Middle School, won first place for the speech contest. The first place winners of the poster contest are Rha’Niyah Cody (Grades K-1), Amelia Garback (Grades 2-3), Emily Leto (Grades 4-6), Ivan Barrett (Grades 7-9) and Ashley Buck (Grades 10-12).

Twelve contestants gave speeches that were judged on content, composition, delivery and time for the theme “What is the Economic Impact of Florida Forests?”. By winning at the local level, Baumann is eligible to compete at the Area 3 Association of Florida Conservation Districts’ contest in May 2011.
The poster contest had over 160 entries, and focused on the theme, “Forest for People: More than you can imagine!”

Lake Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors the annual speech and poster contests, which is designed to develop leadership and stimulate interest in conserving natural resources.
