TAVARES — The Lake County Historical Museum is earning praise once again as the August edition of the Ocala Style Magazine named it one of the Top 20 coolest museums near Ocala.
“We’re in good company with the Morse Museum of Art in Winter Park, Jacksonville’s Cummer Museum of Art, Lightner Museum in St. Augustine and the Florida Museum of Natural History,” said Dr. Diane Kamp, Director of Lake County museums.
The Lake County Historical Museum, which was also recently named one of the Top 100 museums in Florida, offers an exciting and informative view of the County’s history. New exhibits are frequently on display and the museum features a variety of programs for the community’s enjoyment.
The Lake County Historical Museum regularly hosts class visits and tours for local groups. A former elementary school teacher for 17 years, Kamp develops tours and activities for all ages. Groups and classes are often entertained with a museum treasure hunt.
The museum is located on the first floor of the Lake County Historical Courthouse, located at 317 W. Main St., Tavares. The museum is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except legal holidays. There is always something new to see and do at the Lake County Historical Museum.
