EUSTIS — Lake County Fire Rescue Lieutenant Ryan Dupont was honored on March 13 by the Eustis Elks Lodge #1578 as County Firefighter of the Year for 2010.
Awards are given out annually at a banquet ceremony by the Lodge to County and municipal fire and law enforcement personnel as well as the Florida Highway Patrol for outstanding public safety service to the citizens of Lake County.
“We ask the chiefs from each agency to come in and give a speech on why they nominated their recipient and what they did that made them officer or firefighter of the year,” said Ron Locke, chairman of the Americanism Committee, which organizes the event.
Lt. Dupont was nominated and selected by County Public Safety leaders for his actions during an April 2010 structure fire that involved a search and rescue effort. During the response, Lt. Dupont along with two other firefighters became disoriented in the zero-visibility conditions. His quick thinking led to all three firefighters making it out safely.
