TAVARES —Lake County Fire Rescue announced today the addition of Advanced Life Support (ALS) services at County Fire Station 53 in Fruitland Park.
Since 2003, Lake County has increased the number of ALS equipped fire stations from six to 14 out of 23 total stations.
Upgrading from Basic Life Support to ALS requires a number of enhancements and a license issued by the State of Florida.
ALS vehicles are required to carry at a minimum, portable oxygen, defibrillation equipment, airway management supplies and equipment, and additional medications and fluids. Along with this additional equipment for the vehicles, a Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) must be on hand to respond to calls where the fire engine is dispatched.
“We’re excited to be able to offer this additional level of service to the Fruitland Park area,” said Jack Fillman, Lake County Assistant Fire Chief - Administration. “We continually look at our operations for ways to enhance our services to the citizens, with a goal of expanding the ALS service throughout the County to all of our stations.”
