Mark your calendars to attend the Aug. 13 Annual Back-to-School Safety Fair

RELEASE DATE: August 5, 2011

LEESBURG — The Lake County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST), in cooperation with the Lake County Department of Public Works, local law enforcement agencies, Lake Square Mall, and other partners, is reminding residents to make plans to attend the upcoming Annual Back-to-School Safety Fair on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lake Square Mall, located at 10401 U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg.

This is the fifteenth year the event has been held. The Back to School Safety Fair provides families an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming school year by offering several important health and safety programs for youth, including:

  • Free immunizations (must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and have a copy of shot records) - Lake County Health Department
  • Dental screenings - Lake County Health Department
  • Child identification -18th Masonic District
  • Finger printing / community information - Lake County Sheriff’s Office
  • Safe schools, drug-free, tobacco prevention - Lake County Schools
  • Backpack usage safety - Chiropractic Center
  • Bicycle and helmet safety – Lake County Sheriff’s Office
  • Child seat checks – Lake-Sumter EMS’ Kids in Safety Seats (KISS)

The  fair will feature other agencies and services such as Children’s Home Society, Central Florida Blood Center’s Bloodmobile, Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles, The Salvation Army, Lake-Sumter EMS, LakeXpress, Connection Helpline, U.S. Coast Guard, AAA Auto Club and local law enforcement agencies.

Children can also enjoy several fun activities such as face painting from Clown Alley and meet Sir Gus Jr., the kissing camel. Publix, Coca-Cola, the 18th Masonic District and the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Florida are sponsors of this year’s event.

The Lake County CTST is a multi-jurisdictional agency with cooperation between Lake County, its municipalities, other organizations and concerned citizens. The CTST uses a multi-disciplinary approach to solve roadway safety problems in Lake County. The team is comprised of individuals representing engineering, law enforcement, emergency services, traffic-safety education and the public.
