SORRENTO — Residents from the communities of Mount Plymouth and Sorrento are invited to attend an informational meeting to discuss the potential of a community redevelopment area (CRA) in the Mount Plymouth-Sorrento area. The meeting will take place on Monday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at Sorrento Elementary School located at 24605 Wallick Road.
Commissioner Leslie Campione will discuss with the benefits of a CRA such as the funding of roadway, drainage and sidewalk improvements as well as lighting and landscape projects.
Under state law, a CRA is an area that is targeted for redevelopment and revitalization by a local government. It must meet a number of state requirements and be approved by the Board of County Commissioners. The creation of a CRA does not increase a property owner’s taxes or assessed value, and does not change the land use designations. The improvements are paid for by a redevelopment trust fund and are intended to encourage private investment in the area.
If there is interest in proceeding with the development of a CRA, Campione and Lake County staff will work with area residents and property-owners to create a CRA advisory board and prepare a comprehensive redevelopment plan.
For more information about the meeting, call the Board Office at (352) 343-9850.
