TAVARES –- The Lake County Board of County Commissioners recently added ENERGY STAR® qualified gas storage water heaters to the list of products for the GO GREEN GET GREEN rebate program. The addition allows Lake County residents who replace an existing water heater with a new ENERGY STAR® qualified gas storage water heater to apply for a rebate from Lake County for 25 percent of the total cost or up to $500. Water heaters purchased and installed after July 4, 2011 qualify.
The Department of Energy awarded Lake County $2.8 million through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG). More than $150,000 of the available $825,000 funds have already been distributed to Lake County residents and small commercial business owners. Due to limited funds, the program is a one-time, first-come, first-served program. The GO GREEN GET GREEN rebate program was developed to increase energy efficiency and create local jobs in Lake County.
Lake County is also offering a $250 prize to the Lake County resident and small commercial business owner who refers the most participants to the program. The prize will be awarded after EECBG funds are distributed.
