TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division’s Honor Guard will conduct a memorial ceremony in honor of the fallen multi-agency first responders and victims on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The “Ten Years of Remembrance” ceremony is open to the public, and will take place on Friday, Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. in the rotunda of the Lake County Administration Building, located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares.
During the ceremony, a piece of steel fragment from the World Trade Center site will be dedicated. The piece was donated by the director of America’s 9/11 Foundation, Inc., John Pedalino, a retired firefighter from the New York City Fire Department.
Lake County Fire Rescue personnel contributed funds to have the piece encased in glass. Following the ceremony, the piece will be on display in the Department of Public Safety’s administrative offices, located on the fourth floor of the Lake County Administration Building, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
