TAVARES — The deadline for the Lake Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual poster and speech contests is Thursday, Oct. 20, before 5 p.m.
This year's poster theme is “Soil to Spoon” and is open to grades K-12. The posters should tell a visual story of why it’s important to understand where food comes from that you eat each day, such as the variety of products in local grocery stores. This poster contest will help students gain a better understanding of the process the food takes, and the connection that food has to the soil. The speech contest theme is “Should food crops be used for fuel?”and is open to grades 6-12.
Winners will be announced on Nov. 17 at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.
