SORRENTO — Residents and business owners in the Mount Plymouth and Sorrento communities are invited to give feedback on the boundary for the proposed community redevelopment area (CRA) in the East Lake community, as well as help to identify the types of activities and facilities that should be targeted for funding through the CRA.
The survey, which consists of five questions and a general comment field, can be done online by visiting the county’s website at www.lakecountyfl.gov/mpscra. The website also contains general information about CRAs, a link to a map that shows the proposed boundary and details on the timeline and process for establishing the CRA. In order to allow time to compile results of the survey, the deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
This past August, residents and business owners from the area participated in an informational meeting to discuss the potential of a CRA in Mount Plymouth-Sorrento. During the meeting, Commissioner Leslie Campione, along with Lake County staff, discussed the benefits of a CRA, such as the funding of roadway, sidewalk and lighting improvements.
“It was the consensus of those in attendance to move forward with meeting the state requirements for establishing a CRA,” said Campione. “The online survey will help in establishing the priorities and needs of the community, so that together we can work to make Mount Plymouth-Sorrento a better place to live and raise our children.”
Under state law, a CRA is an area that is targeted for redevelopment and revitalization by a local government. It must meet a number of state requirements and be approved by the Board of County Commissioners. The creation of a CRA does not increase a property owner’s taxes or assessed value and does not change the land use designations, but are intended to encourage private investment in the area.
