Retiming Effort Saved More Than $4 Million in Time and Value for Lake County Citizens

RELEASE DATE: January 11, 2012

TAVARES –- Lake County completed a countywide traffic signal synchronization project in the fall of 2011 resulting in a combined yearly savings in time and value of $4.7 million and 620,625 gallons of fuel for Lake County citizens. The project focused on retiming 50 traffic signals along nine of the county’s major corridors. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funded the energy-savings project.

“Small changes like retiming traffic lights can make a big change in our daily lives in the long run,” said Jim Stivender, Lake County Public Works Director. “Saving gas and reducing our carbon emissions are just two examples of that.”
