Lake County Completes Traffic Signal Synchronization Project
Retiming Effort Saved More Than $4 Million in Time and Value for Lake County Citizens

RELEASE DATE: January 11, 2012

TAVARES –- Lake County completed a countywide traffic signal synchronization project in the fall of 2011 resulting in a combined yearly savings in time and value of $4.7 million and 620,625 gallons of fuel for Lake County citizens. The project focused on retiming 50 traffic signals along nine of the county’s major corridors. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funded the energy-savings project.

“Small changes like retiming traffic lights can make a big change in our daily lives in the long run,” said Jim Stivender, Lake County Public Works Director. “Saving gas and reducing our carbon emissions are just two examples of that.”

The traffic signal retiming affected:

  • U.S. Highway 441 from Lakeshore Blvd. to Lake Eustis Drive (5 signals)
  • Alfred St./Old Highway 441 from Lakeshore Blvd. to County Road 19A (3 signals)
  • State Road 19 from Dead River Road to U.S. Highway 441 (3 signals)
  • State Road 19 from U.S. Highway 441 eastbound off ramp to County Road  44 (10 signals)
  • U.S. Highway 441 from College Drive to County Road 473 (5 signals)
  • State Road 44 from U.S. Highway 27 to U.S. Highway 441 (7 signals)
  • U.S. Highway 27 from Gunston St. to Griffin Road (10 signals)
  • U.S. Highway 27 from Citrus Tower Blvd. to County Road 561A (3 signals)
  • U.S. Highway 27 from Cagan Crossings Blvd. to Golden Eagle Blvd. (4 signals)
