TAVARES – As decreased revenues continue to affect state, county and city governments across the country, Darren Gray, County Manager for Lake County, has enacted new measures to ensure that Lake County takes a proactive approach in addressing its long-term budgeting and planning needs.
“We’ve taken this approach because we want the citizens of Lake County to know that we are doing everything in our power to adequately appropriate their tax dollars, by making sure we are operating at peak efficiency in order to meet their needs,” said Gray.
As the county prepares for the upcoming budget year, Gray outlined in a recent budget kick-off meeting, that department directors needed to continue looking for streamlining and efficiency measures within each department’s budget.
To facilitate these measures and ensure that the County’s budgeting benchmarks are met, the County Manager has also implemented a five-year budgeting plan. In this plan, the budgeting office performs constant reviews of trends and tendencies in the economy, both locally and nationally, so Lake County stays current in its fiscal planning. The County also provides quarterly financial reports to commissioners and the public, as it strives to be as transparent as possible with its planning and budgeting endeavors.
