TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend several events for the week of March 5-11. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:
• The ‘March into Spring Hike’ is scheduled for Saturday, March 10 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) “Gateway,” located at 26701 U.S. Highway 27 in Leesburg. Participants will be able to explore PEAR Park during its time of seasonal transition.
It is recommended that participants bring their own binoculars and field guides. Participants are also encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes.
• On Sunday, March 11, there will be an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
The open house, led by Eugene “Gene” Bouley, a retired Geology Professor, will give children and adults the opportunity to learn about rock and mineral classifications, through hands-on exhibits and displays. They will also learn how to identify animals from their skins or bones. In addition, there will be a collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, sands, shells, and other natural specimens for participants to explore.
