TAVARES – The UF/IFAS Lake County Extension will hold the 3rd Annual Lake County Farm Tour on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Participants will meet at the Lake County Agriculture Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares, where check-in will begin at 7:45 a.m. The tour bus will depart from the Agriculture Center promptly, at 8 a.m. to begin the tour.
The tour’s first stop will be at the Living Towers Hydroponic Farm in Eustis. It is home to a 2,000 square foot, state of the art greenhouse that produces lettuces, herbs and vegetables. Living Towers is widely considered to be a prototype of the future in community and family food production and consumption.
Next, the tour will visit AG 3, Inc. in Eustis, where participants will get a first-hand look at the highly-regarded biological technology company. AG 3, Inc. produces herbaceous perennials, grasses, sedges, bulbs, insectivorous and tropical varieties through tissue culture cloning.
The third stop is set for Mo Brangus in Sorrento. Tour-goers will get up close and personal with the purebred and commercial beef producer. The ranch produces purebred bulls that bring the best possible Angus/Brahma beef genetics to cattle producers in Florida.
The final tour destination will be Oak Haven Farm in Sorrento. Participants will explore this small family farm, which is a you-pick strawberry producer and one of the newest wineries in Florida.
