TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of March 18-24. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:
• Two Beginning Birder classes are scheduled for Wednesday, March 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
This class, entitled "Keeping Count," is the third in a series of Beginning Birder classes. In this free class, participants will learn about various topics including field notes, listing and data sources.
• On Saturday, March 24, the Monthly Bird and Butterfly Survey is scheduled from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Ferndale Preserve, located at 19220 County Road 455 in Ferndale.
Volunteers are encouraged to assist Lake County park rangers in identifying common bird and butterfly species, while monitoring the effects of restoration and land management on the long term biodiversity of the Ferndale Preserve.
Survey-takers must have their own binoculars and field guides, and are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes. This class is free and reservations are encouraged, as space is limited.
