Parks & Trails invites residents to attend events scheduled for the week of March 25-31

RELEASE DATE: March 21, 2012

TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of March 25-31. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:

• An Open House is scheduled for Sunday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.

With guidance from Eugene “Gene” Bouley, a retired Geology Professor, participants will have an opportunity to learn about rock and mineral classifications, through hands-on exhibits and displays. They will also be able to explore the volunteer maintained "Native Plant" gardens and hike one of PEAR Park’s many trails.

• On Saturday, March 31, the Introduction to Limnology class is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lake May Reserve, located on County Road 44A, northeast of Eustis.
In this class, participants will learn about the inner workings of a lake, the many variables that contribute to the overall health of a lake and the importance of thoroughly monitoring lakes.

Both events are free and would-be participants are encouraged to make reservations, as space is limited.

For more information about upcoming events, or to make reservations to attend one of the events, call the Lake County Parks & Trails Division at 352-253-4950, email parksandtrails@lakecountyfl.gov or log on to www.lakecountyfl.gov/parks.
