RELEASE DATE: March 23, 2012

TAVARES – The UF/IFAS Lake County Extension is reminding residents to participate in the 3rd Annual Lake County Farm Tour on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Participants will meet at the Lake County Agriculture Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares, where check-in will begin at 7:45 a.m. The tour bus will depart from the Agriculture Center promptly, at 8 a.m. to begin the tour.

The stops on this year’s Farm Tour are as follows:

• Living Towers Hydroponic Farm (Eustis): It is home to a 2,000 square foot, state of the art greenhouse that produces lettuces, herbs and vegetables. Living Towers is widely considered to be a prototype of the future in community and family food production and consumption.

• AG 3, Inc. (Eustis): Participants will get a first-hand look at the highly-regarded biological technology company. AG 3, Inc. produces herbaceous perennials, grasses, sedges, bulbs, insectivorous and tropical varieties through tissue culture cloning.

• Mo Brangus (Sorrento): Tour-goers will get up close and personal with the purebred and commercial beef producer. The ranch produces purebred bulls that bring the best possible Angus/Brahma beef genetics to cattle producers in Florida.

• Oak Haven Farm (Sorrento): Participants will explore this small family farm, which is a you-pick strawberry producer and one of the newest wineries in Florida.

The fee to take part in the Farm Tour is $15 per person. To register, log on to www.eventbrite.com/event/3073820881. Pre-registration is required by March 26, as space is limited. In addition, participants will be provided with boxed lunches at the last stop. Vegetarian lunch options are available, upon request.
