TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of April 22-28. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:
• A Wildlife Hike is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Lake May Reserve, located on County Road 44 in Eustis.
Hikers will get a chance to explore the recently-opened reserve and catch a glimpse of the wildlife that call it home.
• On Friday, April 27, the Monthly Bird and Butterfly Survey will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Ferndale Preserve, located at 19220 County Road 455 in Ferndale.
Volunteers are encouraged to assist Parks Rangers in monitoring the effects of restoration and land management on the long-term biodiversity of the preserve. Experience is a plus but not required. Survey-takers must bring binoculars and field guides.
• On Saturday, April 28, an Evening Nature Hike is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park), located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
On this hike, participants will have the opportunity to see the wildlife that emerges as the evening approaches, and the park’s visitors are gone. Numerous creatures including bobcats, Northern Bobwhite and even the Great Horned Owl may be visible.
All events are free and would-be participants are encouraged to make reservations, as space is limited.
