SORRENTO — Residents from the communities of Mount Plymouth and Sorrento are invited to attend an informational meeting to discuss current and future activities in the area, as well as an update for the Mount Plymouth-Sorrento community redevelopment area (CRA). The meeting will take place on Thursday, May 3 beginning at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at Sorrento Elementary School located at 24605 Wallick Road.
Commissioner Leslie Campione will give an update on the East Lake Community Park, highlight future county-sponsored community events and discuss an overview and status of the CRA. In addition, Mike Woods, Transportation Planner with the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), will discuss with residents the proposed trail network in the area.
Under state law, a CRA is an area that is targeted for redevelopment and revitalization by a local government. It must meet a number of state requirements and be approved by the Board of County Commissioners. The creation of a CRA does not increase a property owner’s taxes or assessed value, and does not change the land use designations. The improvements are paid for by a redevelopment trust fund and are intended to encourage private investment in the area.
For more information about the meeting, call the Board Office at 352-343-9850.
