LADY LAKE – The Lake County Solid Waste Division, in partnership with Waste Management, Inc., and the Lady Lake Police Department, will hold a Prescription Drugs Take-Back event on Friday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in the American Legion Post 347 parking lot, located at 699 W. Lady Lake Blvd. in Lady Lake.
The purpose of the event is to encourage residents to properly dispose of their medications in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner. The Lady Lake Police Department will control all medications processed through chain of custody regulations, and a convenient drive-thru system will allow residents to drop off their items without leaving their vehicle.
“Unattended and unused prescription medications often contribute to accidental poisoning and are the cause of many medical emergencies,” said Johnny Taylor, Lake County Hazardous Waste & E-Cycling Supervisor. “For that reason, alone, it is important to remove all unused medications right away, and these events are a convenient and easy way to do that.”
Due to the overwhelming success of prescription drug collections last year, a joint public-private venture was created to meet the needs of the residents. Waste Management, Inc. of Florida, worked with Lake County to provide a medical collection team and transportation services for the event.
