SORRENTO — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners will be hosting a Spring Community Clean-up event on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Mount Plymouth and Sorrento areas. The event aims to help enhance the beauty of the Mount Plymouth and Sorrento communities by allowing residents and businesses to discard of unwanted items from their yards and storefronts.
Bulk items, such as appliances, tires, mattresses and furniture, will be picked-up curbside beginning May 19 and continuing on Monday, May 21. Items can also be dropped-off at dumpsters placed in the parking lot at Sorrento Park, located at 31535 Church St., on May 19 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Other items being collected at Sorrento Park include household hazardous waste by the Lake County Solid Waste Division, and unwanted medications and prescription drugs by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Items such as lawn and gardening chemicals, paint and related products, cleaning solutions, motor oil and used gas, photo and swimming pool chemicals, batteries, fluorescent lamps, light bulbs and small propane tanks will be accepted. Materials such as infectious waste, solvents, chemical laboratory waste and radioactive waste are not permitted.
Community volunteers will also be out collecting debris from roadside areas, so motorists should use caution when navigating roads throughout the community.
On Saturday, June 9, the East Lake Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a free community picnic at Sorrento Park, where beautification awards and prizes will be given out to residents and business owners that have best demonstrated their commitment to cleaning up the community by submitting a “before” and “after” photo for consideration. Prizes and gift cards given out range from $25 - $250.
