SORRENTO – There’s nothing like a good old spring cleaning to help beautify the streets and boost the moral and pride of the community. That’s exactly what happened on Saturday, May 19 as the Lake County Board of County Commissioners hosted a Spring Community Clean-up event in the Mount Plymouth and Sorrento areas.
The purpose of the event was to help enhance the beauty of the communities by allowing residents and businesses to discard unwanted items from their yards and storefronts. Lake County staff and a large number of community volunteers turned out at the event to lend a hand.
Everything from bulk items like appliances, tires and furniture, to household hazardous waste materials and prescription drugs were collected by the Lake County Solid Waste Division and Waste Services, Inc., totaling over 62,000 pounds, the equivalent of 31.15 tons.
Here is a summary of the items collected at the Spring Community Clean-up event:
• Bulk Items (appliances, tires, furniture, etc.) = 58,460 pounds
• Hazardous Waste Materials = 3,800 pounds
• Prescriptions Drugs and Medications = 40 pounds
With the overwhelming success of the Spring Community Clean-up event, the Lake County Solid Waste Division has scheduled a follow-up event for Saturday, May 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. Roll-off dumpsters will be delivered to Sorrento Park, located at 31535 Church St., where residents can discard trash and bulk items. No hazardous waste materials, prescription drugs or recycling commodities will be taken.
