TAVARES – The Lake County Board of County Commissioners will hold three upcoming events that will review the County’s economic development accomplishments over the past year, as well as highlight future initiatives that will be taking place.
The events, entitled “A Year in Review,” will consist of three meetings that will be held in different regions throughout Lake County. The scheduled meetings are as follows:
• Northeast Region: Thursday, June 7 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Eustis Community Center, located at 601 Northshore Drive in Eustis.
• Northwest Region: Wednesday, June 13 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Venetian Gardens Community Center, located at 201 E. Dixie Ave. in Leesburg.
• South Lake Region: Monday, June 18 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Minneola City Hall, located at 800 U.S. Highway 27 in Minneola.
The events will give an update on various County initiatives, including an update on goals set in the Economic Action Plan, which was adopted in March 2011, as well as the impact its implementation has had on local businesses and Lake County’s economy.
In addition, Economic Development & Tourism staff will discuss the Business Opportunities Centers and the office’s micro-regional approach. There will also be discussions of the County’s renewed focus on tourism, various business incentive programs and local business and economic highlights.
“Events like these go a long way in bringing transparency to our efforts for economic prosperity as a county,” said Scott Blankenship, Director of Lake County’s Office of Economic Development & Tourism. “This is all part of our overall plan to strengthen and maintain a strong economy in Lake County, which will ultimately lead to jobs for our residents.”
These meetings come as Lake County recently saw its jobless rate drop from 9.2 percent in March to 8.7 percent in April, dropping from 10.7 percent in April 2011.
