EUSTIS – As the school year comes to a close, the Lake County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) continues to help raise money for Lake County Schools by participating in the General Mills Box Tops for Education program.
Since November 2009, the Lake County CTST has collected more than 3,000 box tops. Each box top that is collected is worth 10 cents. The proceeds generated from the collections go directly to local schools.
“We are thankful to those in the community who collect box tops and send them to our office,” said Sgt. Tom McKane, Chairman of the Lake County Community Traffic Safety Team. “Funds received from this program enable schools to purchase needed items that may not be within their budgets.”
Schools, on average, receive between $800 and $2,000 from the Box Tops for Education program. The program was started in 1996 by the General Mills Corporation and has raised more than $300 million for schools, nationwide.
Those interested in assisting with this program are encouraged to drop-off clipped box tops from General Mills products to the Lake County Public Works Department, located at 437 Ardice Ave. in Eustis.
