TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of June 10-16. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:
• On Friday, June 15, the Monthly Bird and Butterfly Survey at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg, will be held from 7 to 11 a.m.
Volunteers are encouraged to assist park rangers in monitoring the reserve’s bird and butterfly diversity as restoration and land management are conducted. Experience is a plus but not required. Survey-takers must bring binoculars and field guides.
• A hike through Lake Idamere Park, located at 12335 County Road 448 in Tavares is scheduled for Saturday, June 16 from 8 to 10 a.m.
On this casual excursion, hikers will explore the park and observe various types of wildlife, as well as discuss future initiatives and improvements that are on the horizon.
All events are free and would-be participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes. Reservations are encouraged, but not required.
